Director: Name in blue
The films:
- Das weiße Band (2009) (Theater) [ Blog ]
- Blood on the Sun (1945)
- Cover Up (1949)
- 17 Again (2009)
- Jurassic Park III (2001) Had no idea that my destiny was to watch JP3 and that Alessandro Nivola would be (much better and) in the very next movie I saw as well:
- Coco avant Chanel (2009) (Theater) In fact, besides Anne Fontaine's impeccable direction (with a shift from thriller to biopic), Alessandro Nivola was the best thing about this film.
- Lenny (1974)
- Fire Down Below (1957)
- The Winter Guest (1997)
- The Long Walk Home (1990)
- Vampire's Kiss (1988)
- Waking Ned Devine (1998)
- Sous les toits de Paris / Under the Roofs of Paris (1930) Rene Clair - I don't love it as much as Le Million, however, it was pretty fun about scam artists in Paris. YAY!
- Hail the Conquering Hero (1944)
- La lune dans le caniveau / Moon in the Gutter (1983) A really strange movie by Jean-Jacques Beineix. It makes no sense, but it could make sense.
- Plein sud (1981)
- Paris (2008) (Theater) [ Blog ]
- An Education (2009) (Theater) Charming performance by Carey Mulligan. Hope to blog about it more in detail.
- Spiegel van Holland (1950)
- The Lower Depths/Les bas-fonds (1936) with Introduction by Jean Renoir (Criterion DVD)
- Donzoko (1957)
- I Love You Again (1940) William Powell = yum.
- The Lemon Sisters (1990)
- America (1924)
- Ridicule (1996) Patrice Leconte
"Castles have a habit of burning."
"I am torn between respect for you... and desire." - The Informant! (2009) (Theater)
- A Dark Adapted Eye (1994) (TV)
- Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) "If you don't hate me, you must love me!"
- You Can't Cheat an Honest Man (1939)
- The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970) I like the girl who played Hildy. Also Jason Robards was good, but overall Peckinpah disgusts me.
- I Shot Jesse James (1949)
- Sweetie (1989)
- I pugni in tasca (1965)
- Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye (1950)
- Hallelujah I'm a Bum (1933)
- Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) Wow, the remake was almost better. But the original's ending was more pure. I was disturbed to find out that the little girl in the film is Paris Hilton's aunt.
- Side Street (1950) A real inconsequential noir. Pretty much a waste of time. I think I must have seen all the good noirs (except I'm sure Robert Siodmak still has a few more hidden gems). Oh so this was directed by Anthony Mann. I don't get him!!!!!
- Under Fire (1983) I think this got on my list back in the day when I thought Gene Hackman was the awesomest. He's great, but in this he's the middle-agiest.
Mike Leigh:
- All or Nothing (2002/I)
- Career Girls (1997)
- Secrets & Lies (1996)
- Vera Drake (2004)
- Life Is Sweet (1991)
Nicholas Ray:
Robert Siodmak:
It was kind of a coincidence that I rented all these Siodmak films and that there was a double feature of his playing at the theater. I didn't have time to watch Criss-Cross again, so instead I consoled myself with only watching...
Richard Widmark (actor):
I accidentally/unintentionally watched these back to back:
- Night and the City (1950) Jules Dassin didn't read the book he was adapting, but it wasn't his fault, it was McCarthy's!! He was being blacklisted for crying out loud.Dassin's touch was still present and it was well done. It wasn't my favorite, but still impeccably directed. Have to admire the man.
- Kiss of Death (1947) Recommended by Pedro Almodóvar on his blog about actresses and staircases.
Shorts: Partial Movies:
- An Affair to Remember (1957) Saw the end on TCM/Rewatch.
- Pineapple Express (2008) Going to bed sounded better than finishing this flick.
- Virginia City (1940)
