I recently watched "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour: Final Vow (#1.6)" (1962) in which something very valuable is stolen (you can view the episode on IMDB and I won't give it away).
So, on Sunday I saw a movie and had a lot of time to kill in between church and the movie. So I thought I'd bring my laptop, go to the library, get dinner, and then go to the movie (yeah, something like six hours to kill).
When I was waiting in line for the movie (an hour early), two older ladies were in front of me. I asked if they would hold my place in line and I'd be right back. I hadn't put my laptop away yet and they said, "Oh yeah sure, and by the way, you can leave your stuff here if you want to."
Ha ha. I had just watched this Alfred Hitchcock episode a few days before and I thought of it. I also thought how I bought a top of the line laptop and had arranged to pay for it over the period of a year. And I said, "It's ok" and took the laptop with me.
Ohhhhhhh, and you know what their reaction was? As I was walking away, one pouted to the other, "She doesn't trust us."
Believe me, it would have been worth it to them to disregard the amount they paid for the movie tickets and take off with my laptop. I don't think so. When I came back from the bathroom/water fountain, they treated me icily.
I still have my laptop, though.
